The Natural Beauty of Sandstone Coasters

Sandstone coasters are made from 100% sandstone, which is a very porous material. These are perfect choices for both decor and protection when serving drinks. Such coasters bring an element of the outdoors to the interior of your home and will complement any color scheme.

They have the natural color of sand produced from natural stone boulders, the slices of which are mot molded, formed or changed in any way.

However, even within a set, each coaster will be slightly different due to the natural markings of the stone during its period of formation. These markings can include such things as specks of other colors, lines, swirls or miniscule iron inclusions.

There are several shades of colors available in sandstone coasters, all of which have superb absorbent qualities. The porous nature of the stone means that liquid that drips from a cold beverage glass will easily be caught by the coaster before it runs onto the tablecloth or the surface of the table itself.

These coasters have a cork backing that will slide easily over your furniture without scratching or marring it in any way. The surface of the coaster is textured so that the bottom of the glass will not stick to it, as often happened with smooth surfaced coasters.

When this happens and you lift the glass, the coaster also rises with it and when it drops off it could crash onto the floor or the table. You won’t have to worry about this with coasters made of sandstone.

Sandstone coasters are absorbent coasters that can easily absorb about ¼ cup of liquid. You don’t have to try to dry the coasters off by laying them upside down, as the liquid will naturally evaporate into the air. To clean them, all you have to do is give them an occasional wipe with a damp cloth.

If you notice that the coasters are not as absorbent as they once were, it could mean that the stone has become blocked and cannot absorb as much liquid. Simply put the coasters in warm water containing mild detergent with the cork backing facing upward and scrub them gently with a cloth. Lay the coasters out on a cloth to dry naturally.

You should never attempt to clean your sandstone coasters by putting them in the dishwasher. This will harm the coasters beyond repair because it can cause the cork backing to come off and the harsh detergent will leave residue on the coaster which will keep it from doing the work it was intended to do in absorbing liquids.

If you use the coasters as a base for aluminum cans of soft drink, the aluminum could leave marks on them. This is not disastrous because these marks simply rub off with a soft toothbrush.

If you are looking for green products for your home, then the right choice is sandstone coasters for your drink glasses. These are all natural and will not harm the environment, since they come from the environment.

The stone is also thermal resistant, which means that you can use them with either hot or cold drinks. In fact laying a hot cup of coffee on one of these coasters is very similar to laying it on a small heater because the stone will actually help to keep the liquid warmer for a longer period of time.
